The Catholic Community of Christ Our Light is a parish that is active and full of life. We are not only a community but rather a family. Our parishioners are active within the church, the ministries, the school and the athletic and performing arts programs. Many parishioners are active in multiple activities such as teaching an exploratory at school and a church ministry. I would like to take a moment and let you know a little about KOCA and what we do.
KOCA's mission is to promote a greater sense of community and volunteerism amongst the men of our Parish community, to leverage the abundant talent and gifts present within our Parish community, to coordinate outreach efforts that bring these talents and gifts to support the needs of our Parish, our School, and our Community to unite for social purposes those individuals who are interested in the distinguished record and future progress of our Parish community.
That sounds impressive but what does it mean? KOCA is doers; we assist in the management of the grounds and facilities, providing input to Fr. Tom, working with the school to perform minor repairs and upkeep. Assist PTA with various events as well as sponsoring and putting on an end of year picnic for the RCS students. We also perform outreach within the Camden Diocese, supporting Catholic Charities with monthly furniture pick-up for the refuge program and performing minor maintenance to parishes within Camden.
Lastly, we are a social ministry. We hold meetings every other month from September to May and have several social events throughout the year. Our annual Christmas social has sold out every year and has become a tradition with many of our members. We try to have at least 2 -3 socials per year (Christmas, mid-winter social, and summer social).
We are always looking for new members. KOCA is a great way to be involved in your child’s school and in the Parish without huge time commitments. KOCA is an easy way to get to know what’s going on at RCS and Christ Our Light, to make new friends, and be a part of the community/family that is Christ Our Light Parish.
Our meetings are the third Thursday of every other month from September to May at 8:00 PM in the school auditorium. Our meeting for 2015-2016 will be:
•September 17, 2015
November 19, 2015
•January 21, 2016
•March 17, 2016
•May 19, 2016
Come out and meet KOCA’s members, hear what they say about KOCA.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at one of our meetings.
