Prayer and Fellowship

Good Morning Moms

Are you a mom of a young child looking to meet other moms while building deeper community bonds  in the parish?  The friendships & support from previous groups in the parish has been a testimony of love and care.  Contact Sherine/Julie on staff to share your ideas as we plan to revive the Mom’s ministry for parents with young children.

Christ Our Light Prayer Group

The Christ Our Light Prayer Group meets every Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9 PM in the school all-purpose room (first floor, hallway on right).  The prayer group is part of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

What is the purpose of a prayer group meeting?

A prayer meeting is not a discussion club or a therapy session.  It is a time to give our full attention to Jesus through the help of the Holy Spirit.

The purpose of Christ Our Light Prayer Meetings is:

  1. To praise, worship, and honor God
  2. To build up the Body of Christ through prayer and faith-sharing experiences

What happens at the meetings?

Each prayer group is uniquely different because the group reflects the personalities and gifts of those who attend.  In Christ Our Light Prayer Meetings we start by praying the rosary since Mary is the Patroness of the Charismatic Renewal.

7:30 to 8 PM: Rosary

8 to 8:45 PM: Opening Prayer, Praise & Worship (Singing), Scripture Readings (for Upcoming Sunday), Faith Sharing

8:45 to 9 PM: Announcements and Reports about Upcoming Events

Do I have to raise my hand to pray if I attend a prayer meeting?

No.  While hands raised in prayer is not unusual, you should pray as you feel comfortable.  Outward manifestations of prayer are less important than the prayer of the heart.

Do I have to say, "Praise the Lord," "Alleluia," or "Amen"?

No.  You do not have to say or do anything.

Do I have to talk about myself or speak at a prayer meeting?

No.  Most people do not.  You don't have to give a testimony.  Simply come to experience the life and love of Jesus working in the people present at the meeting.  Come to listen, praise, and learn how prayer to God the Holy Spirit can change your life.

What is a "testimony"?

A testimony is also called "faith sharing," which is the recounting of how the Lord is working in your life.  It is always a first-hand experience, not another person's story.  If the testimony is led by the Spirit, the result will be that the center of the testimony is the honor and glory of Jesus, not the person sharing.

Is the Christ Our Light Prayer Group a parish organization?

While it is parish-based and under the director of the pastor, its primary mission is to encourage a personal conversion to Jesus Christ through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

Can I grow spiritually in the Charismatic Renewal?

Yes!  We are encouraged by the leadership of Popes Paul VI and John Paul II and the Bishops of the United States, who have written pastoral statements supporting and encouraging the Renewal.

The Bishops of the United States, in their 1984 pastoral letter, wrote: "We assure those in the Charismatic Renewal of the support they enjoy from the bishops of the United States and we encourage them in their efforts to renew the life of the Church."

God bless you by awakening the power of the Holy Spirit within you!

Women's Cornerstone Retreat

The Women’s Cornerstone Retreat is offered annually for all women of the parish. Women who have attended the retreat participate in the Cornerstone ministry by serving as Team members to prepare and lead the retreat for new participants. Meetings are held monthly during the autumn, and every two weeks leading up to the spring retreat. Team members also host reunion evenings to nurture the sense of community built during the retreat.
