Ext. 323 Fr. Tom Newton, the Pastor of Christ Our Light, comes to this position after being the pastor of St. Peter Celestine for almost six years and the pastor of Queen of Heaven for three months. Fr. Tom has a Master of Divinity degree from Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, NY and a Master of Public Administration degree from Rutgers University. Fr. Tom was previously the Vicar for Human Services of the Diocese of Camden.  

In addition to his primary assignment as pastor of Christ Our Light, he currently serves as Advocate for Priest’s Health and Wellness, a member of the College of Consultors, a member of the Presbyteral Council, a member of the Priest Personnel Board, the president of the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees, a member of the Housing Services of the Diocese of Camden Board of Trustees, a member of the Archbishop Damiano School Board of Trustees, a member of the Diocesan Health Services Board of Trustees, and a member of the Diocesan Finance Council’s committee for Compensation and Benefits.

John Vovak, Pastoral Associate for Worship and Music, comes to the Community of Christ our Light after serving as a church music director for 13 years, the last three of which have been spent in service to Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Parish in Hammonton, New Jersey. John earned a bachelor degree in voice and music education and pursued choral conducting in graduate school.

Along with serving as Director of Music at Christ our Light, John maintains an active involvement in the musical arts scene of Southern New Jersey. He is currently the President of the Board of Trustees for the Greater South Jersey Chorus based in Cherry Hill, NJ, and also serves on the board of the Camden Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Although John was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, since 2010 John has considered Cherry Hill his newly adopted home town 

 

Mrs. Cathy Johnson

Cathy Johnson, Assistant for Worship and Music, co-founded and currently co-directs Heartful Ministries, a non-profit organization assisting faith communities in spiritual formation and liturgical preparation. Her education includes a BS in Biology from the University of Scranton, an MA in Religious Studies from Villanova University, and an MS in Pastoral Care/Spiritual Direction from Neumann University. Cathy is a spiritual director and is the girls varsity soccer coach at Camden Catholic High School. She and her husband Paul are members of the 7 PM Music Ministry.

 

Ms. Pat Slater

Pat Slater, the Pastoral Associate for Justice and Community Outreach, comes to this position after work both in justice ministries and hospital chaplaincy. Pat has a Masters in Communication from Bowling Green State University, a Masters in Pastoral Ministry from Boston College and completed a residency in chaplaincy at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Pat previously served as the director of the Romero Center in Camden, an associate director in the Office of Justice and Peace for the Diocese of Richmond, VA and a staff chaplain for Bon Secours Hospital system in Richmond.

Ginny Grogan is the Pastoral Associate for Elementary Faith Formation. Prior to the merger, she had previously served as the Coordinator of Religious Education at St. Peter Celestine for thirteen years. She has been a member of the parish for twenty-seven years. Ginny hopes to engage the children registered in our faith formation program and their families in activities that will generate enthusiasm for understanding the Catholic faith and for embracing what it means to live that faith.

 

Ms. Sherine Green

Sherine Green serves as Director of Youth Faith Formation, mother of a wild toddler and professor at Villanova and St. Josephs Maine Online. Prior to working for the Catholic Community of Christ Our Light, Sherine worked for the Romero Center in Camden where she developed retreats for high schools, colleges and parish groups from around the country. She was a Mercy Volunteer in NY and completed her graduate studies at a Sister of Mercy school, St Joseph’s College of Maine. She is originally from the island of Jamaica, where she currently invites the parish on mission immersion experiences; growing up in Jamaica gave her a great appreciation for people, cultures and travel. One of her greatest peace and justice opportunities came during an immersion experience to Northern Ireland; an experience which was paramount for faith formation. 

 

 

Mrs. Mary Lou Lymper

Mary Lou Lymper is an assistant for Lifelong Faith Formation. She has served as an assistant for Elementary Faith Formation for 13 years, but because of own children, has been a part of the Parish Faith Formation program for 30 years. She feels privileged to journey with the young people of our parish as they grow in their love for God, in the realization of how very much God loves them, and in the responsibility to treat all with compassion. Mary Lou looks forward to joining all the members of the Catholic Community of Christ Our Light as together, we continue to build the Kingdom of God with Christ as our Light.

Nancy Douglass, Assistant for Worship and Music, comes to this position having served in diverse roles at the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Gibbsboro, NJ; the Office for Divine Worship in Philadelphia, PA; and Camden County College in Cherry Hill, Camden, and Blackwood, NJ.  Nancy lives in Cherry Hill with husband Michael, and has three children, Steven, Emily, and Matthew.  She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Romance Languages and Secondary Education from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

Cort Hrivnak, Assistant for Communications and Information Technologies, Cort received his BS in Psychology from St. Joseph’s University in 1998. He then worked as a IT System Administrator and Human Resource Benefits Specialist for nine years before returning to school. He received his Masters in Theological Studies from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry in 2009. Cort attended St. Peter Celestine School and has been involved in various parish ministries.

 

Deacon Joe Seaman

Deacon Joe Seaman, a deacon at Christ Our Light, comes to this ministry after serving as a deacon at St. Peter Celestine for seven years and as a deacon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Maple Shade for five years. Deacon Joe is also assigned by the bishop to minister outside of the parish community in prison ministry and teaches for both the Diocese of Camden and the Diocese of Trenton. Deacon Joe has a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, PA and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA. Deacon Joe is an educator by profession with over twenty-six years of experience in education and religious education.

Mary Del Rossi is originally from Milwaukee, WI. Her bachelor's degree is from St. Norbert College in Elementary/Middle School Education, Spanish and English as a Second Language. Since then, she has worked as a caregiver for elderly with dementia and in immigrants services in New York City. She studied Theology at a school lesser than Boston College. During those two years, she worked at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral in Camden with families and youth of the Confirmation program, catechists of religious education, and young adults of Romero Center Ministries. While in New Jersey, Mary met her husband Andrew. They are grateful to have shared their wedding day with the community of Christ Our Light. Mary hopes that though her ministry as the parish secretary, she can contribute to the welcoming environment of the parish.

Nancy has been a member of the parish for 18 years. She resides in Cherry Hill with her husband, John; and they have been blessed with their daughter, Rachel, who was adopted in China. Rachel attended St. Peter Celestine School throughout her elementary years.

Nancy has had administrative positions throughout her career. She previously worked in Human Resources at Holman Automotive Group for nearly 10 years.

She enjoys being part of the parish staff and spreading the love of Christ.
